In relation to the present state of my hearing the improvements noticed (with my new Phonak Certena hearing aids) are:-

Automatic Mode

1. Can hear the TV at a level that is convenient to others without the use of headphones.
2. No problems with answering the phone.
3. Considerable improvement in "spatial hearing" i.e. where sounds are coming from.
4. Much greater clarity of sound and the definition of words is much improved.

Background Noise Reduction

1. This is very useful. Previously (i.e. with my old hearing aids) if the kettle, or wireless etc. was on, those sounds seemed to take preference over the human voice.
2. In a noisy environment it allows one to focus more efficiently with the person one is talking to.

Music mode

1. The is very helpful. It covers the clarinet range of 3 octaves very well. It will take me a little time to find out how well it performs in differing acoustic situations.
2. The correct positioning of the aids in the ear is very important when using this setting.
3. I am impressed with the computerised adjustments that can be made in the mode and this will require patience on the part of the client and the dispenser.

The last factor I have noticed is the question of comfort. These aids are much easier to wear for longer periods of time.
